The exciting young Irish violinist, Darragh Morgan, a leading international exponent of contemporary music, joins the Orchestra to perform Barber’s Violin Concerto, one of the great American concertos of the 20th century. The concert opens and closes with glimpses of musical life from this side of 'the pond' with Holst’s St Paul’s Suite and Britten’s salute to Queen Elizabeth I .
