Three giants of the Austro- German romantic era beginning with Schubert’s beautifully proportioned Symphony No.8, left unfinished at the time of his death in 1828, followed by Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No.1 composed when he was just 22. Finally, Schumann’s tribute to his native country, and particularly the Rhineland region, where he holidayed with his wife Clara in 1850.
