A story of those who left.
Written and directed by Jonathan Burgess
Over 95% of the Protestant people living on the west bank of the River Foyle moved away from the city side between 1969 and 1973. This movement, referred to by many as The Exodus, is one of the most significant and yet untold stories of Northern Ireland's recent past.
This brand new play is the first theatre production to focus on these events and has been researched using interviews with people who have first-hand experience of what happened around that time. Set in the early 1970’s, The Exodus attempts to look at how and why this movement happened, as well as why it was allowed to happen.
A hard-hitting drama, The Exodus examines the extreme pressures under which the Protestant community was placed during one of the most turbulent periods of The Troubles.
