Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival
Usual Ticket Price: £8
Texas Music Magazine artist of the year 2011, Amanda Shires, is a singing, songwriting and fiddle playing 'Americana Indie Crunk' kind of performer.
Critics were blown away by what Shires calls her 'true' solo debut, 2009’s 'West Cross Timbers', and then became ecstatic with its follow up, last year's 'Carrying Lightning'.
Other recent commitments include playing fiddle and singing back-up on Jason Isbell and Todd Snider's latest albums and she'll soon be opening shows for the irrepressible Hayes Carll. Now, this April/May sees Amanda return to the UK for a series of dates that have got fans of Americana, salivating in anticipation.
"Outright devastating...Shires alternated between violin and ukulele on songs triangulating the vivid, lyrical poetry of fellow Texan Townes Van Zandt and the wrenching emotional intensity of, say, Lucinda Williams."- Austin Chronicle
