This year, Aspects reaches its 20th birthday and goes from strength to strength. We welcome back, for her first visit since the very first Aspects, the Grande Dame of Irish literature Jennifer Johnston, and we're thrilled to bring this opportunity to hear more about her lengthy career and wonderful writing. We also welcome actress and olive grove owner Carol Drinkwater, veteran writer and poet Dermot Healy, and the Aspects Crime Night this year gives local author Colin Bateman the chance to interview one of his literary heroes - creator of Inspector Rebus, Ian Rankin. We also welcome visits from two more international visitors; architectural historian Dan Cruickshank and legendary film critic Barry Norman.
Aspects has always celebrated and encouraged the up and coming generation of writers, and the Bloomfields Young Aspects Festival 2011 will see schools visits from Irish Children's Laureate Siobhan Parkinson, Nicola Pearce and Leanne O'Sullivan, as well as events during the festival featuring Colin Bateman, story telling with Liz Weir and Once Upon A Time and book making workshops with The Happy Artist. Young Aspects will close with its annual showcase event, where young people from the Borough will get the opportunity to read their work to the audience in the Festival Marquee.
Bernard O'Donoghue has described Aspects as 'one of the great gatherings'. With something for writers and literature lovers alike, what are you waiting for? We'll see you at the festival!
